Clean Street Indicator Pilot Program Minimize

Indicator LightClean Street Indicator Lights Under Repair

Please be advised that the Clean Street Indicator Lights in the Wicker Park area are currently under repair. Please be sure to adhere to the schedule posted on the permanent signs to avoid a ticket.

The Clean Street Indicator Pilot Program consists of a solar powered light mounted on top of street cleaning sign poles. The street cleaning indicator light will flash red on the scheduled street sweeping day to inform residents to move their vehicles. As the sweeper passes by and cleans the street, a built-in transmitter will trigger the indicator light to flash green to inform residents that the parking restrictions have been lifted for the rest of the day. At 3:00 p.m., the light will be deactivated.

Why the Wicker Park Neighborhood
in the 1st Ward?

This neighborhood is located near bustling commercial corridors and the Damen Blue Line Station. Many shoppers and commuters park on the residential streets and do not note the street sweeping parking restriction signs. Consequently, they get ticketed and the street space they occupy does not get cleaned. The indicator, with its flashing red light, is designed to get motorists’ attention, so they do not park in the prohibited areas.

For more information about the Clean Street Indicator Pilot Program, please contact the 1st Ward Service office at (773) 278-0101 or email us.

Street Cleaning starts April 1st and runs through November 27th. During street cleaning days, vehicles cannot park on a specific side of the street in order to accommodate the street cleaner.

The majority of the 1st Ward is part of a pilot program where permanent street cleaning signs are posted on area streets. The permanent signs advise residents of the day of the week and the time restrictions for no parking on street cleaning days. The areas of the ward that are not included in the pilot project will be notified of street cleaning by orange temporary signs. The orange temporary signs will be posted a day before the street will be cleaned.

When cars are parked on the street during this service some areas cannot be swept. Or in some cases, a small section of your block may need some special attention. Please feel free to contact our office or the 1st Ward Streets and Sanitation office directly at (312) 744-5523 to request a special street cleaning service.
