Clean Street Indicator Lights Under Repair
Please be advised that the Clean Street Indicator Lights in the Wicker Park area are currently under repair. Please be sure to adhere to the schedule posted on the permanent signs to avoid a ticket.
The Clean Street Indicator Pilot Program consists of a solar powered light mounted on top of street cleaning sign poles. The street cleaning indicator light will flash red on the scheduled street sweeping day to inform residents to move their vehicles. As the sweeper passes by and cleans the street, a built-in transmitter will trigger the indicator light to flash green to inform residents that the parking restrictions have been lifted for the rest of the day. At 3:00 p.m., the light will be deactivated.
Why the Wicker Park Neighborhood
in the 1st Ward?
This neighborhood is located near bustling commercial corridors and the Damen Blue Line Station. Many shoppers and commuters park on the residential streets and do not note the street sweeping parking restriction signs. Consequently, they get ticketed and the street space they occupy does not get cleaned. The indicator, with its flashing red light, is designed to get motorists’ attention, so they do not park in the prohibited areas.
